Hardly any manufacturing company can do without process capability indices (C_{p} and C_{pk}). Even though you normally use software solutions to calculate them, you can estimate them easily based on graphics.

Determine both process capability indices in the following three graphics. Use the following information to figure it out in your head.

C_{p} = tolerance width divided by natural process variation

C_{pk} = critical distance divided by half the natural process variation

_{p}= -0.17 / C_{pk}= 0.8 - C
_{p}= 1.33 / C_{pk}= 1.0 - C
_{p}= 2.0 / C_{pk}= 1.0

_{p}= 1.0 / C_{pk}= 1.0 - C
_{p}= 1.0 / C_{pk}= 1.33 - C
_{p}= 2.0 / C_{p}k = 2.0

_{p}= 0.8 / C_{pk}= -0.17 - C
_{p}= 1.0 / C_{pk}= 0.8 - C
_{p}= 1.33 / C_{pk}= 1.33
